Historically, systems integration was largely a technical and an operational task. It was considered as part of the wider area of systems engineering. However, in the last decade or so systems integration is considered to be a strategic enabler across different levels of the business such as systems engineering and operations, and is seen as critical in assisting senior management decision making.
